New Arrivals 2008
4/10/08   Aspen finally gave birth to some lambs that didn't have to be pulled!  The larger
weighed 8.5 lbs. and is a crystal white ewe.  The "smaller" ewe lamb (also white, but not as
brilliant, so may carry color) weighed 8.25 lbs.  Little ones compared to the giants Aspen
has had in the past.  These are our first Hoss lambs, and already they have the flowing
fleece that characterizes his offspring.  One will stay, and one is for sale.  Note the black
spot on the foot of the "smaller" ewe.
4/11/08   Allspice went into labor at about 5:30 this afternoon - 2 hours later, nothing was
coming.  We checked her, and I could feel the lamb, but couldn't work the hornbuds past
the pelvic girdle.  After 40 minutes of pulling, stretching, and pulling some more, we
finally turned her on her back, and with both Tom and myself pulling, we got the lamb
out.  I hate deliveries like this - single horned ram lambs are awful.  This lamb is our first
baby out of the Abelson, Cane, and he is humongous - weighing 11.25 pounds at birth.
Being a single, he is growing at an astonishing rate, and is totally healthy.  I thought for
sure we would have hurt him getting him free of Allspice, but these are some tough little
animals!

4/12/08   As if to make up for our difficult time yesterday, Juniper delivered twin solid
moorit lambs this afternoon all by herself.  These are the first (and possibly only) lambs
out of Hawthorn, and so will probably stay in the flock.  The ram lamb weighed 8 pounds,
his twin sister weighed 6 pounds.  Both are healthy and bouncy, and a beautiful dark
chocolate shade.  They also have some fantastic dairy genetics!  Both babies are extremely
friendly, which makes pictures difficult to get.
4/12/08   Buddy and Tyler went out to do a flock check around 9:00 tonight and found
Blizzard with her first set of twins - beautiful white ewe lambs out of Tatarian.  These
lambs combine the fleece lines of Aboti and Hylur, as well as Visir.  I must say I'm a bit
surprised that they were both white - I was expecting either black or black/grey.  Bet their
lambs will throw color!  The darker twin weighed 6.5 pounds, the whiter twin weighed 6
pounds exactly.  We're very happy to see these gals so healthy, as Blizzard needed several
doses of CMPK gel to boost her mineral level.
4/13/08  Inkberry did us proud again by delivering two lovely ewe lambs out of Cane - I
was once again expecting color, but if they're going to be white, they may as well be girls!
The "darker" of the twins weighed 9 pounds, and the brighter gal weighed 8 pounds.
They are really built well - I'm very pleased with Cane's lambs so far this year.
