More 2010 Lambs
4/8   Rachael had the first lamb of the season for us, her first ever on this farm,
and the first offspring of
Ilex Ra.   A lot of Firsts!!!  This 10.25 pound ewe lamb
was already dry and bouncing around when we found her this afternoon.
Rachael is an old hand at parenting, and followed us calmly to the barn where
the new family is getting some TLC.  Rachael really likes having her own hay!
4/10   Nutkin gave birth to twins this afternoon while I was at work.  Tom says it
seemed like they just fell out.  What a great ewe!  The black ram weighed 10
pounds, and the black/grey mouflon ewe weighed 9.5 pounds - nice size and
great builds on both lambs!   Little Black is
clear polled, and is the 300th lamb
born on the farm.  These babies are by
Rohan.
4/11  Vesta gave birth to a 10 pound black badgerface ewe early this morning,
our first lamb by
Pol! This is a very vocal baby, who complained the whole way
to the lambing jug.  Vesta was quite concerned, and almost pushed me over a
few times trying to "protect" her lamb.  All's well that ends well, and the new
family is snug and pampered in the barn.  The baby is already leaping around the
jug and mouthing hay.
4/11  Another one of our little miracles, Quiver gave birth to a 6.25 pound solid
black ewe lamb right before feeding time today.   This is her first lamb, and she
is the most awesome mother, fighting off all 33 of the other ewes in her paddock
to protect her baby.  The lamb is our first daughter by
Jester this season.
4/11  This gorgeous moorit spotted ram lamb is by Firethorn out of Latifa, a
daughter of TuFlok.  This 8 pound lamb is Latifa's first baby, and she did a
grand job of having him and taking care of him.  You can see by his round rear
that he's going to be a muscular boy!
4/11  Sometimes I think that its a Master Plan to have first-time ewes deliver
only one lamb.
Rhapsody gave birth to these twin 7 pound ram lambs late in the
afternoon, and for a while Tom thought she might reject the solid black boy.  He
apparently had tried to stand up after birth, and rolled down the hill.  Being a
newbie, Rhapsody didn't know enough to go looking for him, and after his
tumble, he looked somewhat like a clod of dirt.  Tom and Kelsey wrestled
Rhapsody into a jug with the boys and watched her for a while.  Pretty soon she
figured out her job, and the family is healthy and happy now!  Thank God!
These boys are by
Rohan.
