BLW003J  Aralia (5/5/1999)
Black/grey scurred twin
Lambing record: 2,2,3,2,2,2, 3,
2
Sire: Jager ram BLW140 -
        Old Mori twice
Dam: Yeoman ewe STS453E -
Old Mori grandaughter
This massive gal came to us as a bred ewe from The Creek's Edge in South Dakota.  She was
the first ewe to give birth to triplets on our farm in 2006, two of which were daughters.
Unfortunately these gals have also passed.   Aralia was very large for a ewe and we would
have liked to have added more of her characteristics to our flock, but we have a grandson
who's a "keeper", so Aralia lives on.  She was the first of our flock to die of "unknown causes"
- maybe she just wore out!
HBI23S  Anise (4/19/06)
HBI24S  Allspice (4/19/06)
White polled triplets
Sire:  SRX756L - AI son of Eir
Dam:  Aralia (BLW003J) - Old Mori X 3
Anise was a triplet, with a crystal-white coat.  She had excellent size and square conformation;
she also had abundant fleece.  Anise was a cherished member of our flock, and I had great hopes
for her offspring in the years to come.  Sadly she was the first and only animal to contract
listeriosis, which caused her to go blind and walk in circles.  This bacteria attacks the brain if
enters the bloodstream.  We battled to save her with massive doses of antibiotics for almost three
months, but on December 18th, 2007, we lost the battle and ended her suffering.  We believe the
source of infection to have been either an erupting tooth or a puncture in the mouth caused by
brittle hay.  In either case, prevention is close to impossible from what we can tell.  We never got
a lamb from her.
In the Summer of 2008, Allspice, Anise's sisiter, developed White Muscle Disease, which turned
every tissue in her body snow white, even her tongue.  We kept treating her as if she had a
parasite problem, and by the time we realized what she was really suffering from, it was too late.
In spite of selenium treatments, vitamins, and antibiotics, the muscle damage done was too far
advanced.  Allspice managed to survive until mid-February of 2009, with a good appetite and an
alert demeanor, but she looked like a wraith and never regained any weight.  She left behind a
beautiful son out of Cane, so her genetics live on in the flock, but we had so many high hopes
for these two girls.   What Man proposes...

LF258T  Alder (4/29/07)
White horned twin
Lambing record:
1
Sire: NMI541R - AI Kunningison;
             carries bloodlines from
            Garpur, Sponn, Morro, Serkur
Dropi, and Old Mori X 2
Dam: Ember (DRK122L) -
           carries bloodlines from Blessa,
            Golsa, Old Mori, Gray Pet,
           and Solee
Alder was the first girl to develop White Muscle
Disease the summer of 2008, and due to our
ignorance, she died from it.  Like Allspice, we
treated her multiple times for barberpole, never
realizing that Selenium deficiency also causes white
eye membranes.  Alder showed none of the usual
signs of the disease - no stilted walk, no constant
lying down, but an autopsy showed that all her
tissues were white, even her organs.  We regret her
passing, but she did save all her flockmates from a
similar fate, and left us a gorgeous daughter out of
Chinquapin.
SRX360J  Athena (4/23/1999)
White horned twin
Lambing record: 2,2,0,2,0,2, 2, 2,
2
Sire: Moli (AI)
Dam: STS682F - Yeoman ewe
Athena was our flock matron, and one of our largest ewes, and was the first mature AI ewe we
bought  She was rather tall, with lovely curving horns and ivory fleece.  She produced some
wonderful daughters for us out of Ash; most of them are still in the flock.  In January of 2007 we
brought home her AI daughter out of Noi, and in Spring of 2008, we brought home Ping, who is
her granddaughter.  In July of 2008, Athena began wasting away, and though we tried worming,
antibiotics, feed supplements, vitamins, and ground hay, she continued to decline until her death in
August.  When we examined her, we discovered that she
had no back teeth left on the top at all!!
It's a miracle that she survived as long as she did.  Although we have her genetics solidly in the
flock, we're still going to miss her.  She was a great ewe.
HBI54T  Birch  (4/6/07)
Black spotted horned twin
Lambing record: 1,

Sire:  Hokan (BLW453M) -
    AI Serkurson; grandson of Solee
Dam:  Beech (LNB11P) -
    carries bloodlines from Noi,
     Askur and Old Mori
I blame myself for this girls' passing.  I suspected Milk
Fever, but didn't treat her with CMPK gel because I
thought the vet would give it to her IV.  I should have
remembered that traditionally most vets are running late,
and should have given her something to help her hold on
until the vet arrived.  As it was, she died with an IV in her
neck...  She left behind a lovely daughter, and a full sister
to carry on the bloodlines.
