New Arrivals 2009
3/22 We start lambing season early this year, and what a great beginning! A 7.5 pound
ewe lamb and an 8.5 pound ram lamb out of Little Black Sambo and our Dalurson, Zed.
We are so thrilled to have these lambs, as Zed (who was not in great shape when we
bought him) began a decline shortly after going in with his gals, which unfortunately led
to his death during our sub-zero January weather. It appears he made his mark before
leaving us, and you can expect to see many more of his lambs before we're through.
These are Sammy's first lambs in two years, and she is a very enthusiastic mother! Ah yes,
lambing the way Nature intended it!
3/23 Arwen (formerly Nicotiana), one of our Sveppur twins, delivered two lovely ewe
lambs out of our Vestrison, Darken Rahl. The pure white ewe weighed 8 pounds, and her
twin (with Betty Davis eyes) weighed 7.5 pounds. We are really thrilled with these lambs,
too, since Darken Rahl only has two lambs registered to him, even though he's 7 years
old. We were afraid he only threw sons - boy, are we glad to have the girls!!! Look to see
more of his offspring in the coming weeks! This family was not very cooperative as far as
getting good pictures goes. We'll see if we can't do better later.
3/28 Beech delivered twin sons again out of Cane, but this time they're both pure white.
The Big Boy weighed 9 pounds, and the Little Boy weighed 6 pounds. He doesn't know
he's small! I would like to have had a daughter out of Cane by this ewe, since he returns
to Michigan this Fall, but... at least both boys are strong and healthy.
4/01 Sycamore delivered a 7 pound ewe lamb and a 6.5 pound ram lamb out of Ilex for
April Fool's Day. The ewe lamb is a bright white, but the ram lamb has a lot of silvering
on him - very pretty. He also has darker legs. Both lambs are very active!
4/01 Juniper seems to do whatever Sycamore does, so she had her lambs this evening - a 6
pound ram lamb and a 4 pound ewe lamb out of Ilex. The ewe lamb appeared to be
about 2 weeks behind in development - she had no muscle tone, and her eyes were still
glued shut. Anybody else ever had this happen? Anyway, she was unable to stand or
swallow, and only lived for about a hour. Thankfully the ram lamb is doing great.
4/03 Myrica had a wonderful set of twins for us today out of Ilex - an 8.5 pound white
ram lamb, and an 8 pound spotted ewe lamb!!! We've never gotten spots out of Ilex
before, but I guess you just have to get the right combination of genes, and viola;
something you never expected occurs! These sheep are more fun! As you can imagine,
this gal won't be on our "sales" pages! Note that the first 10 lambs born have been white!
