SWIFTLY FLOW THE YEARS or What We've Been Up to Since
|
We've seen a lot of gorgeous sunrises
over Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana,
Iowa, Nebraska, Michigan, Minnesota,
and Wyoming...we've been to some
places that we never thought we'd go,
thanks to the Icelandic community.
Awesome!
We've had two horrible
winters in a row, one with
lots of ice and snow, and one
with lots of snow and weeks
of subzero temperatures...
Awesome!
In spite of an overabundance of rain last
year, we were more lush sheep-wise
than pasture-wise, and had our first
experience with leasing pastureland.
We'll be doing that again this year...
Awesome!
All the rain made our really bad roof
"really badder", and we had to have it
replaced. Besides a drier indoors, the
best thing to come out of the experience is
that I finally captured our friend, James, on
camera (not that he looks happy about it)
It was also great to see the boys working
together... Awesome!
We have done Spring Shearing thrice... Awesome (although the sheep didn't like it)!
We've learned that Icelandic sheep can
jump really high. Don't put your face
anywhere near them if they're moving!
This photo was taken after the
swelling went down... Awesome!
Oh, and we've also learned that you
never, never, NEVER turn your back
on a ram - never. A week on crutches
cured me of the "niceness" illusion!
Tyler has become our major young adult
shepherd, and is actively helping us
pursue our dream of an Icelandic dairy.
In addition, we have a grandson, Talias'
brother, Caimyn, and another on the way,
Aubris' brother, Payton (?). It's true that
grandparents have more fun! Awesome!
More shepherds in the family!
Kelsey went to her last Homecoming as
a River Ridge Wildcat - Graduation
approaches! She is on the National
Honor Roll, is going to State with her
academic team, and has held a 4.0 for
most of her school career! Awesome!
She has also taken over the roll of
record-keeper for the flock, bless her
heart! I'm one lucky mom!
I have met many fabulous "sheep" people, and feel honored that I can call some of
them friends (although they may be a bit scared). Among them I count Daryl, Willie,
and Laurie Gisch, Lyle Behl, Tom McDowell, Valerie Black, Brad and Lynette Stone,
John and Trish Cahill, Alan Leighton, Ben and Deb Rock, Jim Fraley, Mike and Ann
Chany, and our dairy partners, Dan Sprank and Chuck Harris. If your name should be
on here, you know who you are! May the sun never set on our endeavours...
Awesome!
